Comments
Species of Uredinopsis are heteroecious; the uredinial and telial stages occur on ferns and the aecial stage occurs on species of Abies (Cummins and Hiratsuka 2003). Several species of Uredinopsis are described from Pteridium (Ziller 1959, Berndt 1998). The urediniospores of U. pteridis have a longitudinal band of warts and are generally smooth on the remaining surface of the spore (Berndt 1998). Berndt (1998) considered U. pteridis had a cosmopolitan distribution. Molecular phylogenetic analysis confirmed the placement of this species in Uredinopsis (McTaggart et al, 2014), and based on morphology, we refer this taxon to U. pteridis.
