Uromycladium maritimum McAlpine

Description
Spermogonia on phyllodes, amphigenous, erumpent, hemispherical, 100‒150 µm diam.

Spermatia globose, ellipsoidal or obovoid, hyaline, 3‒6 × 2‒5 µm.

Uredinia on phyllodes, amphigenous, erumpent, bullate, up to 1 mm diam, reddish brown.

Urediniospores ellipsoidal or ovoid, yellowish brown, 32‒40 × 24‒28 µm; wall 2‒4 µm thick at sides, up to 8 µm thick at apex, densely covered in coarse conical warts with acute or rounded apices up to 2 µm high and 1.5 µm across base, warts most prominent at apex forming a tuft, with 4‒7 equatorial germ pores.

Telia on phyllodes, amphigenous, erumpent, bullate, reddish brown, up to 1 mm diam.

Teliospores dorsally compressed globose or subglobose, reddish brown, 20‒25 × 22‒34 µm; formed in pairs on septate pedicels up to 80 µm long that bear one swollen vesicle; vesicles globose or ellipsoidal, 25‒40 µm diam., hyaline, thin-walled, septate; wall 1.5‒4.0 µm thick, smooth.

Comments
McAlpine (1906) described U. maritimum as having urediniospores 45‒60 µm in length but this may be an error as his images seem to show that the spores are shorter, and closer to the measurements we found of 32‒40 µm.
