Restiosporium restionum (Nees) Vánky

Tolyposporium restionum (Nees) Websdane, Sivasith., K.W. Dixon & Meney
Uredo restionum Nees

Sori in all capsules of an infected plant, swollen, hidden by the floral envelopes, replacing the seeds with a black semi-agglutinated to granular-powdery mass of spore balls; infected male plants transformed into female plants with sori.

Spore balls subglobose, ellipsoidal, elongate, usually ±irregular, 40–80 (–100) × 30–60 (–70) µm, dark olivaceous brown to subopaque, persistent, composed of tens of tightly compressed spores that separate by strong pressure.

Spores subpolyhedrally or polyhedrally irregular, more rarely rounded, often with a short acute tip at the angles and narrow lines on the surface, 9.5–15.0 × 7–11 µm, olivaceous brown; wall slightly uneven, 1.0–2.5 µm thick; free surface slightly convex; in SEM with small warts.
