Tilletia cathcartae Durán & G.W. Fisch.

Sori in all ovaries of an inflorescence, inconspicuous, hidden by the floral envelopes, ovoid to broadly fusiform, c. 1.0–1.5 mm long and 0.5 mm wide, at first covered by a pericarp that ruptures exposing the reddish brown powdery spore masses mixed with sterile cells.

Spores globose, subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal or slightly irregular, 32–42 × 30–36 µm, golden brown; wall 4–5 µm thick, including the 3–4 µm high flattened verrucae that can give the spore surface an areolate appearance, with 9–14 darker irregular areas per spore diameter.

Sterile cells few, globose, irregular or angular, 18–30 µm diam., hyaline; wall 3.5–5.0 µm thick, smooth.
