Sori as as in T. hypodytes, surrounding upper internodes, but initially covered by a ±conspicuous silvery to whitish fungal peridium that splits irregularly and flakes away to expose the brownish black powdery spore mass. Infection systemic; inflorescence usually aborted.

Spores globose, subglobose to ovoid, 4–5 (–6) × 3.5–4.5 (–5) µm, medium to dark olivaceous brown, smooth, without polar thickenings.
