The microscopes above are connected to the departmental network via a web-enabled camera and control unit. A basic web server integrated into the control unit provides real-time access to the camera via a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer). The remote microscopes are accessible by arranging a time via email or phone with one of the contacts listed above.
To access these microscopes remotely:
1. First ensure the remote microscope and the DS-L2 control unit are switched on.
2. Enter one of the addresses listed above into your web browser (e.g. http://10.34.132.45).
3. Click on Room 1.
Once logged in you should be able to view the real-time images from the remote microscope. The menu above the main image window allows adjustment of the refresh rate and image resolution. Images can be captured by right clicking on them and selecting 'Save Picture As' from the menu, alternatively accessing the Control Pad in the top left hand corner allows you to save the image in other file formats (e.g. BMP, TIF).
The DS-L2 control unit can also capture images to a Compact Flash Card or USB Memory Device, these images can then be hosted on the in-built web server and downloaded remotely via a web browser.
To access files remotely:
1. First ensure the DS-L2 control unit is switched on.
2. Enter one of the addresses listed above into your web browser.
3. Click on Room 2.
4. A list of image files saved onto the storage devices (e.g. CF Card, USB) will be displayed.
5. Click on an image file to download it from the control unit to your local computer.
Images are saved in the following file structure:
- Folders are named with the date of image capture
(i.e. IMYYMMDD).
- Image files are named with the time of image capture (i.e. DDhhmmss).
Where IM = image, YY = year, MM = month, DD = day, hh = hour, mm = minute, ss = second.
